Desktop Environment =================== As I wrote here previously [1],[2],[3],[4] I have started to use the FVWM on my non-IRIX desktops at home and at work. I have been using the FVWM on my main home workstation since 2003 (I think) but it was on the SGI with IRIX (it might sound unusual to replace the SGI desktop with much more basic FVWM but it worked much faster this way on a low end Indy - and I decided to keep that environment on faster SGIs, too). On the "normal" Linux computers I had several different desktop environments like the GNOME (up to 2.x) or the Unity. I used the FVWM on Linux in distant past (I still have somewhere a Toshiba 100CT laptop with Slackware 9 and with the FVWM). Now I use the FVWM (which is set up to have colors and decorations similar to the SGI's 4Dwm window manager) on my ARM desktop (the ODROID XU-4) and on my work remote workstation (the Sun Microsystems Ultra 40 computer, which is 2x dual core AMD64 system). I thought initially that I will miss some desktop features but I still miss nothing and enjoy easier and more customizable controls of the desktop. On my portable devices I still use their original environments (the Unity8 on Ubuntu Touch and the Unity7 on my GPD Pocket laptop). But I'm thinking about complete re-install of the GPD Pocket's system. If I will encourage myself to do it then I will also try to set up the FVWM for this device. And if my BlackBird arrive (I still have no shipping confirmation) then I will probably use the FVWM on this machine, too. P.S. This post was created on the SGI Indigo with the 4Dwm window manager and the Indigo Magic Desktop environment. I have no FVWM on this machine... ;-) References: [1] gopher://sdf.org:70/0/users/jirka/Phlog/2019_04_06.txt [2] gopher://sdf.org:70/0/users/jirka/Phlog/2019_04_04.txt [3] gopher://sdf.org:70/0/users/jirka/Phlog/2019_04_02.txt [4] gopher://sdf.org:70/0/users/jirka/Phlog/2019_04_01.txt
