Blackbird Update 5 ================== Well, there is no update related to my own Blackbird. It is still not shipped. I just finished reading of Blackbird semi-review from Cameron Kaiser [1]. As always it is very interesting. He made some points about usability of such system. He wrote his experience with a minimal Blackbird configuration (a 4-core CPU, 16 GB of RAM, no separate GPU and the miniATX case). He recommends to get a 8-core CPU, a discrete GPU, preferrably at least 32 GB of RAM and a bigger case (a minitower or bigger). Even then he does not recommend to use such system as user's primary desktop workstation. Oh, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I ordered the basic bundle (the system with 4-core CPU) and got just 15 GB of RAM. But I also ordered a compatible AMD GPU and the minitower case. The system should replace my main home workstation which is the old good SGI O2. But I assume that in my case the boost of performace will be large enough to satisfy my expectations (the O2 has a 250 MHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM and its CRM GPU was already slow in 1999 and I'm still able to use it today).
