Nokia N900 ========== There was an opportunity to get a cheap used Nokia N900 so I have got it. I have had some experience with older Nokia "internet tablets": I have been owner of the Nokia 770 since 2006 or 2007 and I also have the N800 and N810. But I never used the last member of this family, the N900. So this device is totally new for me. The N900 is a bit different: is is smaller, has much better camera than the N800/N810 and it can be used as a 2G/3G phone. IT also has an infraport. Some first impressions: The device is smaller then N810 (it's closest relative). Building quality is very good (if not excellent). The keyboard (albeit smaller) is more comfortable than N810's one. I also noticed that it can be easily used without a stylus (but it still has one). In many cases it is more practical to use the keyboard for text input and fingers as pointers. The launcher is different: there is a "desktop" which can accommodate icons to launch programs and some widgets. The older devices had ability to use widgets but the icons were only available with use of third-party launchers. There is also ability to have several such desktops. After that the device works as expected. But I don't like the dark GUI scheme. I will have to find something which will look more like GUI of older devices. Software selection is similar to older devices (software is not binary compatible between different generations of these devices - well, this is Linux). There are available some titles which were not ported to older devices but some things are not present here. I have not find search function in Application Manager. There should be an infra-red port. But I don't know if there is any software to use it. I'm curious if I will be able to share data wit my Palms. And now, excuse me. I'm going to play with my new toy...
