reMarkable2

I have got the reMarkable e-paper  tablet for work. I saw many positive
reviews, many negative reviews and some  neutral ones. So I wasn't sure
how good the device will be for me.

But the big  e-paper reader with good resolution is  probably the thing
that my tired eyes need so I decided to got it.

It was ordered in summer so I got the new reMarkable 2. I have it for a
few days  so I'm  not able  to write a  proper review  so far.  But the
device seems to be  able thing I need: it can  correctly show PDF files
of  scientific articles.  So  even  text formatted  to  two columns  is
readable and formulas and pictures are visualized correctly. Ability to
annotate these  files is  a bonus  for me, not  the requirement.  It of
course cannot do  bookmarks and other advanced things  that many people
expect from e-book readers.

It is  still possible  to connect the  device to USB  (it has  a single
USB-C connector which is the only way to charge it). It identifies as a
USB  Ethernet Device  to the  computer and  it runs  a web  server with
application that allows upload files to device (and download them, too)
There is a WiFi which can be used to connect to company's cloud service
(they say that they use Google  Services so everything is very safe...)
which allows user to install system updates and to synchronise ALL data
to  that  cloud (I  didn't  find  any  possibility  to make  some  data
local-only,  without synchronisation).  I'm not  sure if  there is  any
other use for the WiFi so I turned it off and I use only the USB. 

By the  way, I was not  able to connect  to the EDUROAM network  at the
university (the  same setup  works on  other Linux  devices if  I'm not
mistaken). I  followed the manual  and reMarkable's  FAQ it it  did not
worked. Thus I updated my device by using my own WiFi router at home.

I still have to  try writing on the device (till now I  just make a few
short notes) and try some other things.


So far I am satisfied with this thing.
