New round of Apple IIe attempts =============================== Long story short: I read somewhere that if something does not work on the Apple computer then it is always recommended to get a new one. I am an Apple user so I followed the recommendation. And it worked. Now I will be a bit more serious. I got (an European/Italian version) of the Apple IIe computer. AS I wrote here it has some issues. The main one was faulty keyboard. I replaced the keyboard chip, re-seated things and so on but nothing helped. I have been planning to try resolder the keyboard contacts but it is a long-term task because I'm not good in soldering. Once I saw a relatively cheap Apple IIe (clean, tested, blah blah) in the U.S.. With all shipping costs and custom taxes it was even more expensive than my older IIe which was shipped just from Milan. It has (of course)an American 110V power supply which is not ideal here. But I already have had the adapter (it was used with my CD player). This computer has an old disk controller card (the cable is incompatible with newer ones and seems not to be detachable at all) so I have had to pull the newer dual disk card from the European machine and to use it here. I put everything together, turned the device on and ... ...it started to work! Keyboard seems to be OK, cards are recognised and so on. So I add all desired stuff: a 5.25" floppy drive, a SD floppy emulator card the ROM card and the Uthernet II card. Now I have to learn how to put software on the SD to be able to use the Uthernet for further work. Unfortunately I have no free 5.25" diskettes and no second 5.25" drive for any other computer so floppies are not the right way... I will see during Chrismas what I will able to do with this device... P.S. I'm sorry that there are no POWER-related or SGI-related posts. Actually, I still use both but there is nothing new: everything just works.
