No POWER today ============== I have decided that I will not torture my Raptor Blackbird system this weekend. I have had no plan to do any serious stuff so I have seen no point in running a 3GHz POWER9 system just to run the Firefox. I have actually surfed and e-mailed on my Ubuntu Touch Tablet (the BQ M10). Actually, the UbPorts people are working hard and it is going better and better (and not slower and slower how it is common among mainstream mobile platforms).. But ten I have decided to finally solve my SGI O2 problem (as you may read in the other post). I still did not repaired the CD-ROM but I have tested the RAM. Thus now I have 768 MB of the Random Access Memory. It is shared between the graphics and the CPU but still it is a considerable amount (the SGI O2 has the 1024 MB limit). The 768 MB is still four time more than was size of our first home PC in 1994 and 24 times more that the maximum possible RAM size of that PC (it never had more than 8 MB, though). IF I am not mistaken I did a lot of useful work on this particular computer (I still have its case and PSU but the internals were replaced by a Pentium ones). So it should be enough! So I have been able to return to do serious work on my Silicon Graphics workstation.. Actually, I just surf some pages in the Firefox, tidied up some spreadsheets (in the SC, of course!) and have find out that the Ted text editor has a spell checker (good find, after 15 year from its installation - for some reason I never expected that it can be here so I probably never opened that menu...). I also have been updating my FEA software to the last version and so on. I have been using the XMMS for some music. First I tried several on-line radios (the ORF Radio Wien, the AnonRadio, the ZX Radio and others) but none of then was compatible with my mood. So I have been playing music from my collection. Well, I'm cheating a bit - I also run my GPD Pocket laptop - it sits under my 1600SW LCD and is controlled from the O2 with use of the x2x. Obviously, it is not possible to access modern e-mails and e-shops from the O2's ancient Firefox. The version 3 might by OK but the TLS is an unsolvable problem.. :-(
