Not enough RAM

Just experienced the OOM Killer at work.  On my OpenPOWER with 32 GB of
RAM and  16 GB of  swap space. My  own program (a  16 years old  C code
designed with  small data sets  in mind) ate  all that space.  It seems
that it is  rather due its poor  design that there is  actually so high
demand for data space...
