Ajax Enables Users 

I think it's interesting that the control of the Internet was being 
wrestled away from the individual with XML schemas and document type 
descriptions(DTD) and Ajax with its XMLHttpRequest component has brought 
design back to the individual.

Schema's were perfect for the giant corporation: develope an elaborate, 
complicated system, full of sex appeal and hype and charge the public to 
access the schema that translate it to a web page. Except for one thing: 
there's a powerful force in human nature, and that's that people want to 
do it themselves.

There's no motivation unless we do things ourselves. With discovery comes 
motivation. With motivation comes drive, power, commitment, accomplishment 
and success. We're always cheering for the little guy and XMLHttpRequest 
helps put some of the Internet back into the hands of the individual.
