---------- Fun with a Hi-Fi System May 22, 2023 ----- While tackling another box in the storage room, the decision was made to start setting up a hi-fi system in the living room. The Blu-Ray player, turntable, and half-functional tape deck are hooked up and functional but the project is far from complete. It has barely started, in fact. This is really more a basic test of functionality. While fine for now, this turntable only plays 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records. One that can handle 78s would be lovely. A line amp will also be needed but it is listenable for now. The tape player needs new belts, a cleaning, and to see if the second (recording) deck can be resurrected. If not, replacement with a solid single-deck is in order. At least this one needs no amplifier so that is one ray of sunshine. A lack of AM, FM, and ppossibly shortwave receiver also needs to be rectified. Finding a qality unit that fits the existing shelf space and utilizes an RCA output might take some time. At least this can be the lowest priority part of the project as commercial/gov't broadcast media is cancer, anyway. Time would be needed to find a proper analog-tuning unit, anyway. Despite the entire medium being trash, it would also be nice to score a functional 8-track player. There is a small collectiong of the tapes gathering dust in the storage room since the last player died. It would be a good part of the system to let some friends' little ankle-biters play with. Score some more cheap tapes and it would be a simple, chunky plug and play experience with no fiddling. If anything went wrong, there would be nothing of value lost. At least one more box has been removed from storage. And I've got a distraction from my mostly retarded "mobile" cassette recording project. While cool, four-track cassette recorders of both actual quality and capacity to travel are a money and time vacuum I can scarce afford, right now... ====== kimek [gopher://sdf.org/1/users/kimek]
