   Everything about engineering is about ''rules of thumb''. It's
   mistakenly called ''Applied Science''. But Engineers have to do
   things that science knows nothing about, all of the time. This
   line about Engineering and Heuristics (Rule of Thumb) says it
   best: Apply Science when appropriate. Yes, sometimes there's
   just no time to use Science and you just have to use what works
