^*sigh* as I'm reading Stephen Wolfram's "A New Kind of
   Science", I'm realizing that what he's doing is akin to knitting
   patterns, but using computers to knit. Absolutely fascinating
   patterns and will probably result in some interesting ideas for
   the nature of things - but ... it wasn't *quite* what I'd
   hoped.^
