Well, numbers, I believe, comes close to Universal, but not
   entirely.* I believe, as numbers are metaphors, that metaphors
   are actually at the root, for while there are some things that
   mathematics cannot work with well, such as things that are
   subjective, inconsistent, irreconcilable, contradictory - in
   short, matters of day-to-day life - metaphors can cover that
   territory as well as numbers, but number, while nearly complete,
   will remain in the department of "almost".

   But I have yet to see where metaphorical connections cannot
   cover it all. Metaphors in the form of numbers are capable of
   assisting us to create machines that can work with metaphors in
   the form of electrical impulses which metaphorically translate
   into things we humans can use and see, like this screen, which
   is a metaphor for paper itself... and so on.

   It's a different view of things than we're taught: we're usually
   taught that numbers are at the top of the heap.

   But I believe there is one level higher than number, and that's
   metaphor. That's my hypothesis, a territory that seems barely
   even begun to be explored.

   I could also be wrong but I'm ok with that as well. There's
   enough people working on mathematics; yet how few are placing
   numbers and mathematics under the heading of metaphor? I've
   found none, although I'm sure there are some. I think there's
   something here that bears exploration.
