People who choose not to follow the rules of their subculture or
   culture may find themselves in trouble with them, get arrested
   to go jail.

   But here's the thing: They're STILL NOT opting out of society by
   being different.

   They're still within the surrounding culture, because there are
   JAILS in the surrounding culture.

   When they go to jail, they join a subculture, which is the
   subculture that exists in the prison population, and likely
   other subcultures within there as well.
