Occam's razor is from the 13th century. It's good for a quick and dirty sorting out of what's reasonable, but we're dealing with issues of great complexity that don't necessarily succumb to simple razor tests. Example: the Turing Test is easy to beat. It is an Occam's Razor. Did it prove artificial intelligence? Yes it did. According to Occam's Razor, it did. But is it enough? No. We can be simple, but not too simple.
