Publishing under pseudonyms is as old as writing itself. Same criticisms then as today. It's one of those awkward, "both are right but in different ways dept". Personally, the anarchist in me likes the fact that he did this. Yet also, I wouldn't lend him a nickel. Can't trust the guy to be on the same page as you. He came clean afterwards, but any business dealings with him after that point would require extra scrutiny. He might have some higher purpose in mind but that higher purpose might involve deceit, potentially at crucial junctions. So, I can admire a person in one sense, while also recognizing that he's a bit scammy too. But mostly, I applaud him. He proved a point.
