Whether there is cause and effect with regards to US vs Finland
   attitude towards 5 year olds in their future academic
   achievements, I don't know. But what's one more year of play?
   One more year for emotional and social maturity to develop
   cognitively before having to face the hoards? One more year
   before having to encounter bullies and meangirls and substitute
   parents which go along with the positive learn-y stuff and the
   friendships?
