We can only understand things so far as we're able to analogize
   them to something tangible in some fashion. For example, if that
   was your most vivid analogy of spin, then in some very true
   sense, for you, the Universe is ultimately filled with mobius
   strips of colored paper traveling through the tines of unseen
   forks. Or if spin was visualized best by the Bali dancing cup
   trick, then the Universe is filled with very tiny dancers with
   two arms moving cups around their bodies. Even if you mentally
   can move past the initial analogy (or metaphor) that gets you
   there, it all comes back to that first connection to reality. It
   also points to our limitations as a species; I believe we
   ultimately can only ever go as far as we're able to analogize,
   in some form, to something tangible. We may move beyond what's
   tangible, but it's built upon tangible metaphors. If something
   comes along that we cannot, in some way, model in some fashion,
   whether with physical analogies or mathematical analogies, we're
   screwed. We will be unable to comprehend it at all.
