Rubber bands, twisted around and knotted up, ready to unfurl but held back with "destressing" equivalent to untying the knots, knowing what parts to keep bound up and which parts to release, without giving into the temptation of cutting through the knots completely with a nearby pair of scissors lying on a mental table nearby. when other people try to put their hooks into my elastic and want me to join their entanglement with my own entanglement, I resist. I have enough to untangle my own. I'll gently try to untangle their knots and twists but mostly so theirs don't get entangled with mine so that I can keep working on my own.
