People mean what they say? Oh that would be nice, Seedy. I have to disagree. I _wish_ people were that straightforward but I think duplicity is quite everyday and common. Just look at the popularity of sarcasm. As my nephew puts it, "saying the opposite of what you really mean". Some people wear it as a badge of honor that they have this capability. That's not saying what you mean or meaning what you say - and sarcasm is about as basic as it comes. Some people get even more twisted in what they are saying vs what they're 'really saying'. Implications, inferences, suspicions... unfortunately words and sentences and logic alone are not always enough to discern intention.
