In Florida, we have the Sunshine Law. It's actually rather marvelous, if imperfect. You do something of interest to public? It's on the record. I fart in someone's face and they complain, it's on record. Government officials have a meeting? It's on record. Police screw up? It's on record. Not only on record, but easily available on the Internet for the world to see. This is why you see Florida in the news so much: the local police depts and government officials aren't allowed to hide. There's not much in the way of privacy laws here. Contrast to New Jersey. Secrecy galore. Everybody has rights. You want information? You gotta pay someone to get it and maybe you will.. eventually... that's where I came from. Between the two? Florida's better. Let it all hang out. Are there STILL secrets? I'm sure. But there's also a lot of people watching and they're quick to point out flaws when they happen. It's not a bad system.
