Some may wonder why bother with Gopher here in the far off space year of 2020. It's inherently impractical - you have to go out of your way to access it and getting the average layperson to eben begin to comprehend it with their background of everything being boild down to "apps" means that anything placed on a gopher site would only ever really be accessed by the most nerdy of people. That, however, is the beauty of it. It is such a unique thing that it is quite special to use. This goes beyond the fact that it is inherently neat to mess with such an older tech, but knowing that the only people who should reasonably ever see such content are those that will have the intellect to appreciate it, rather than be confused and hostile, as the average person in what I like to call the "peanut gallery" online tends to be. Add in the inherent lack of social aspects this is one of those rare treats on the internet where someone can simply put content out there and have it be what it is, and the hell with commentary. I neither want nor need the commentary of some random person I have never nor will ever meet who can't even begin to comprehend what I am actually saying and yet they wish to argue with me. So, why use Gopher in 2020? Because the rest of the internet is a flaming dumpster fire that needs to be done away with. Save for my website, of course... that's a cool place. www.xadara.com ~Chris 3:25 PM 8/11/2020
