!Delayed in Columbus --- KYPATH diary ~ by Evy 14 May 2023 @ 04:54 UTC --- 70 year old Ghanaian woman from Queens, traveling alone. She's visiting daughter & granddaughter in Cincinnati. Bus from Columbus to Cincinnati was delayed 9 hours, from 5:40 am to 3:00 pm. The greyhound station in Columbus is the 1st floor of a parking garage. It's just two thruways for buses, a porta potties & benches with anti-laying down technology. When our bus from Pittsburgh to Columbus arrives, a white lady's getting verbally abused, a clear victim of violence, shiners for eyes and a swollen mouth. Police arrive soon and don't help much. The woman from Queens is having trouble on the phone rebooking her ticket. I gesture my help and she accepts. I write down the new booking number so she can have the station attendant print it out. She complains there's no running water or vending machine for something to take her meds with. My heart swells. "There's a cafe a couple blocks from here, it opens at 7, I'll get you something." At the cafe she pulls out two pink pills and a blue pill. For her blood pressure, she explains. She takes them with a swig of coffee. She says she'd take a train from New York City to Cincinnati but didn't realize there was one. She has taken trains before and likes the dining cars.
