States may also compete for $5 billion in rail improvement & safety grants & $3 billion for grade crossing safety improvements. Kentucky and Tennessee are the biggest populated areas of the US with no Amtrak service. A proposed Bluegrass line will take existing track Cincinnati to Atlanta, stopping in Lexington, Knoxville, and 14 other towns. Day & night trains will run each way each day at 40-60 mph. Bicycles can be carried on Amtrak's new fleet at any stop. Amtrak coach tickets cost what gas costs to drive. For this bold vision to become reality, states (OH, KY, TN, GA) & Amtrak have asked to see local support. States must also cost-share for Federal funding. ## Col 2: How the Bluegrass will benefit KY & TN - Direct investment - Jobs in capital projects - Jobs in operations - Safety, road congestion - Intercity travel & tourism ## Col 3: How cities/counties, legislators can help - Letters of support from mayors & legislators. - Include line in long-range planning. - Investigate problem bridges, crossings, fences, tunnels, & signals for inclusion in state rail plan. - Study station feasibility. ## Back 2 cols - Map - Contact KYPATH - Join email list =================================================== Who: Mayors, fiscal courts, legislators Where/When: Meetings Why: Educate on jobs/benefits, get public support What - K: route, existing track, amtrak operator, $$ - A: excitement, nostalgia, hope, pride - S: letter of support, list of local priorities New page 2023-05-14 Last updated: no
