Oppenheimer : first impressions =============================== I saw Oppenheimer today. It was truly a serious work or art. A movie that left me shaken. It certainly lived up to the hype. I highly recommend seeing it, if you haven't already; and see it on a proper cinema screen. It is such a visually striking work, shot with IMAX cameras to produce an immersive experience. It however doesn't rely on the special effects to make a lasting impression on the spectator. It carries a profound anti-war sentiment informed by the immense tragedies of the 20th century. It is difficult to do justice to the entire film in a short comment like this. But I can certainly say that it successfully deals with a range of critical historical questions involving the war and its immediate aftermath. The moment the film ended I knew that I wanted to see it again. Unfortunately, tomorrow is the last day here. I might not get another chance to see it unless I go again tomorrow.
