Austin, Texas natives Explosions in the Sky are probably one of the most
well-known, if not the most well-known post-rock outfits of the modern era.
Spawning countless imitators with their landmark compositional skills, EITS
is a giant of the post-rock world, right up there with bands like Sigur Rós,
Mogwai, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead
Place" is, in my opinion, their best album, featuring complex layered
guitar melodies, emotional dynamic range, compelling songwriting that tells
a story, and much more instrumental goodness. For anyone looking to get
into post-rock, this is a fantastic place to start.
