Still Here ---------- It's been fascinating reading over my previous entry from September of last year. There are so many parallels: 1. Woodworking: I just got back into that! I haven't built a new workbench since last year, but I did get a cheap set of chisels and used it to carve out an enclosure for a "multi-timer" electronics project. 2. Boardgames and pencil-and-paper RPGS: still in the same boat as last year - the family has done some and I feel like we're going to be doing more of that "soon". 3. Sketchbook: Uh, no progress there. I still draw occasionally but it's not a big habit yet. 4. Rubik's Cube: Shit, I need to learn it again. And for some reason, I never did write down my mnemonic system the second time either. :-( 5. It is really nice outside again, just like last year. And I'm even more behind with what everybody's been writing in the Gopher universe. Sorry. :-( But I have made some huge progress in other areas: 1. Walking is now a regular habit. And I'm listening to podcasts on my walks now that I don't have a car commute anymore. 2. I created a popular learning resource for the Zig language: Ziglings! 3. I've been having tons of fun with Raspberry Pi computers and built an electronics project with an RPI Pico microcontroller! 4. I learned NASM x86 assembly and am slowly porting a Forth implementation from GAS to NASM. 5. I've been slowly becoming a better human being by learning how my thoughts create my emotions. 6. After learning the NATO phonetic alphabet (actually a spelling alphabet), I decided to learn the Greek alphabet...and that's turned into learning the modern Greek language! Facts that have driven this year: Covid is far from over, ESPECIALLY if you're a parent in the American South. Home plumbing is shockingly primitive. It's expensive and stupid and...you just kinda have to live with it if you own a home. We live in incredible times when it comes to computing and hobbiest access to technology from hardware to software. There has never been a better time in history to learn any skill. When you're sick, shit is just out of your control. It's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not your fault.
