Ode to My Last Car I took my Subaru Legacy into a garage, and they reported two major issues with it. First, a recent repair done by a smaller garage was a bit suspect. It involved a non-OEM pinch bolt and J-B Weld. Second, the brakes lines were showing lots of corrosion. They actually wrote that the car was unsafe to drive. Their estimate for proper repairs: $3000. Big SIGH! This was the last straw for me with this car. I've owned it for almost 16 years and it's been so reliable. Of course it's had other big repairs, but I don't drive it much (it only had 94,000+ miles on it) and it's been mostly accident free. But $3000 was too much to stomach for such an old car. My wife asked if I gave the car a proper goodbye when I handed it off to a used car salesman one rainy evening. I think I did, but it was a clean break. It served me well. This salesman restores cars, and sees it as a reclamation project. Go for it! And if I see it on the road, I'll give it the knowing nod.
