Not least of all because I have my drum back. I really missed playing my ashiko. It's voice is really unique. So, even if I am not the best drummer on the block, it let's me have conversations with those drummer better than I as well as with the dancers. I really felt "on" last night. I was able to keep up without dropping to half time and my breaks were very short. All in all, a very different experience from the weeks following my pneumonia last year that made me feel old. Just before 11 pm, I felt something funny happen in my right hand. It took me a while to figure out, but I think my thumb popped out of joint. The muscle had swollen enough that it couldn't pop back easily. I have to remember that I have not been playing much recently, and that some of the lead drummers are 20 years younger than I am. In fact, I was the fourth grade teacher of the man sitting in the “first chair” last night. I Shay Buttered and massaged my hands before setting off for home last night. And, I hoped they would be fine by morning. On my way home, I got pulled over by a cop who pointed out that my registration had expired. He didn't give me a ticket. He let me off with a warning and told me to renew it online when I got home (which I did). I woke up this morning with the swelling gone from my hands and my thumb back in working order and an email from the RMV saying that it was my temporary proof of registration. So, over all, it was a fun night. It made me wish that I was planning on going to Rites this year. But, I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be in the middle of yet another apartment move.
