# Authorship And Creativity Part 1: The Process ##Introduction I have been writing much more recently thanks to the advent of my capsule. This has lead me to pondering some questions on the nature of my own writings, what standards should be set for myself. What does it mean for writing to be entertaining? Its in this post that I wanted to culminate and share some ideas on the topic. # The Journey Of Writing My articles are ever-changing, this is an indisputable truth. I like to go back to earlier articles to refine them, fix spelling mistakes, add new paragraphs and re-word old ones. Remove the redunant pieces for a smoother flow of wording. My creative writings can be compared to living things which grow in stages, refining the shape and form over time step by step. ## Considering The Deleted But what of the previous iteration, and all of the steps before? Are they not individual creative writing pieces in their own right, lost forever when tweaked the tiniest bit. Is there an argument for maintaining the integredy of thoughts in their original form? Maybe I should have done a better job archiving previous versions instead of destroying them forever. These are the kinds of thoughts I had after reading this log by Ploum: => gemini://rawtext.club/~ploum/2021-09-20.gmi Check out the article here #Typewriters Philosophy Ploum is a typewriting enthusiast who enjoys that particular method of writing in particular. They would like to merge the old method with new technology by automatically have their typed out papers scanned directly into the gemini capsule. Typos and all. I have never spoken to ploum myself, however its easy to imagine that our ideas towards editorial revision are totally different. ## New ideas The best kinds of writings are ones which make you ask new questions, and think new thoughts. Often trying to see things from other peoples perspectives yields new insights to where others differ in thought. How personal philosophies might impact choices. # The Writers Abyss There are a near infinite multitude of different combinations in which we can chain words to convey the nebulous thoughts of the mind. It is the authors job to pick the "right" combination of adjectives and nouns to ignite the minds eye. Prose, pacing, vocabulary, alliteration. It all factors into the shaping of a single paragraph. ## Words Are Mirrors Of The Mind The outcome of a piece of writing is ultimately dependent on the mindset of the author and the range of their thoughts at the moment of writing. The ability to give ideas form and convey in an entertaining way is a very human thing. Each persons unique train of thought is different, as is their particular state of mind at the moment of writing. The process of translating thoughts into words, and even the process in which thoughts themselves seem to pop into being, are extremely sensitive to initial conditions. Compounding psychological and mental factors give rise not only to a highly unique and individual piece of writing, but also a unique writer. # To Be Original? While the construction of sentences is in every way the result of individual experience, the sentence produced is in no way 'original'. What do I mean by that? Check out part 2 of the article and find out. => Part 2 link => ../gemlog Back To Gemlogs
