# Fractal Documentaries Here are some fractal documentaries you can watch for free right now. Didnt know most of these videos existed until doing some serious digging. So, I figured that I should do my part to make them more accessible by linking them here for all to see. The documentaries are a bit older, from the 90s. But have aged well in a timeless way. All of them except the PBS one was directed by Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon, he's an interesting dude who personally knew some Pink Floyd members. I ecourage you to check out his website linked at the bottom. Hope you find something new! Enjoy! ^-^ ## The Colours Of Infinity (1994) Introductory documentary into the concept of fractals, roughness, the mandlbrot set and more. Features Arthur C. Clarke, Benoit B. Mandelbrot, Michael Barnsley. => https://youtu.be/5qXSeNKXNPQ Watch 'The Colours Of Infinity' on Youtube ## The Colours Of Infinity (2011) In 2011 A remastered version of the documentary was released along side a revised version of the book. Both are free to download from the publishers website. The documentary has some new fractal animations generated from modern-ish hardware and the book has a new chapter 7 contributed by Mandelbrot himself. => https://extras.springer.com/2011/978-1-84996-485-2.zip Download The Colours Of Infinity documentary 2011 remastered (1.6 GB) => https://extras.springer.com/2010/978-1-4471-6892-8.zip Download The Colours Of Infinity book 2011 Remastered edition PDF (87 MB) ## Clouds Are Not Spheres (1995) A biographical documentary about Benoit Mandelbrot's life. Mandelbrot is the father of fractal geometry for those that didn't know. => https://vimeo.com/300496617 Watch 'Clouds Are Not Spheres' on Vimeo ## Is God A Number? A more philosophically themed science documentary which looks at the mystery of consciousness and the relationship between maths, the mind and the physical, observable universe. => https://youtu.be/JPzjHcxKGC0 Watch "Is God A Number?" on Youtube ## Mandelbrot's World Of Fractals Theres a documentary thats exclusive to Amazon Video called "Mandelbrot's World Of Fractals". I havent watched it yet, sorry :-( => https://www.amazon.com/Mandelbrots-World-Fractals-Beno%C3%AEt-Mandelbrot/dp/B078YDNQ2N]https://www.amazon.com/Mandelbrots-World-Fractals-Beno%C3%AEt-Mandelbrot/dp/B078YDNQ2N Watch "Mandelbrot's World Of Fractals" on Amazon Prime Video ## PBS NOVA presents Fractals: Hunting the Hidden Dimension another great introductory into fractals which is slightly more modern than the previous documentaries. => https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3nw73a]https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3nw73a Watch "Fractals: Hunting The Hidden Dimension" on Dailymotion ### BONUS: Infinit Along with the 2004-2006 editions of the 'Colors Of Infinity' physical books came a supplemental DVD which contained a bonus music video 30 minutes in length featuring the documentaries soundtrack music by David Gilmore of Pink Floyd fame over some trippy color-cycling mandelbrot zooms/pans. Not essential but a good watch if you want to chill out. => https://vimeo.com/287854579 Watch "Infinit" on Vimeo ### BONUS: David Gilmours music in COI While Infinit does contain Davids iconic tracks used in the documentary, it also has some filler music. Someone was nice enough to isolate his contributions and upload them as a 15 minute video. If you have 15 minutes to kill and are a Pink Floyd fan give it a go. => https://youtu.be/bC_7rMdA7gs Listen to "David Gilmour - Colours of Infinity Medley" on Youtube ### Nigel's website If you want to know more about Nigel, here is his personal website: => https://nigelgordon.wordpress.com => ../ Back To /logs
