---------------------------------------- Traveling September 18th, 2017 ---------------------------------------- I'll be going on a trip for a couple of days, so I'll require some media to help occupy my non-social time. I don't tend to want to engage too much in conversation on planes unless absolutely necessary. Immediately donning headphones is my M.O. for avoiding unwelcome social interactions with random people I don't know, particularly the ones who sit down and wear me out with friendliness. I'm friendly and polite, but introverts *need* their space. Netflix supporting downloadable content sounds like a potential boon (this will have been my first time flying since that feature was introduced, so I have no idea yet if it will actually work as well as I'm hoping). I have several series currently in progress. A friend recently shared Tony Jaa's Ong Bok[1] films with me, and they'll make my shortlist as well. Gritty Thai martial arts films complement plane travel, right? Backups, cont'd. ---------------- Regarding backups, my sincere thanks to tomasino and wlsn for responding with some helpful suggestions. Wlsn pointed me towards Tarsnap[2] which looks very promising, and tomasino mentioned using a variety of services including Dropbox, Nextcloud, and Spideroak, the latter of which is currently marketing very hard to us soon-to-be-former users of Crashplan. I clearly need to get my house in order in terms of data organisation. It is becoming obvious that not all of my data falls into a single category, and that it will be preferable to treat some of it as the precious private IP that it is, while being (rightfully) more cavalier about other data. Some is ephemeral or easily replaced, while some is irreplaceable. Unfortunately, I've been in the habit of backing up *everything*, which isn't an objectively bad thing in itself, but treating my data as a huge homogenous blob limits my choices from both an economic and an ease-of-use point of view. I'll hopefully get a little closer to narrowing down my storage and syncing solution during my trip as well, when I have some time to think during idle spells. It is a business trip, and I plan to be productive during my downtime, even when I'm not on the clock. [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ong_Bak_2 [2]: https://www.tarsnap.com/
