26th February 2024 - What Is Wrong With Me?

I seem to have a problem. While working, I find that I work best with 
trashy TV playing. It has to be something I don't feel a need to look 
at but involves several people talking. I discovered this with the 
madness of th Below Deck franchise. These follow people who work on 
super yachts and it is full of mad guests. The crew are just as mad 
with power struggles, love triangles and general work place drama. It 
is rubbish and trashy but addictive. The captains are always 
interesting characters and respectable. The chefs are just crazy. They 
often do some weird things and argue over nothing. No idea why but 
perhaps you have to be unhinged to be a chef. 

Well I have found another trashy TV favourite to work to. I have 
listened to some 9 hours of Come Dine With Me. Yes, I certainly have 
something wrong with me! Come Dine With Me is a UK based programme 
where 5 strangers hold dinner parties for each other. They have to 
give scores and the winner gets Â1000. As ever, you get some strange 
characters and there is a fantastic voice over announcer who has a 
sarcastic demeanour which is tone perfect. It is a chance to glimpse 
into the British public's houses, dining attitudes and individual 
madness. It is horrifying and reassuring at the same time. Why would 
you do it? It can only be due to a level of narcissim, boredom or 
desire to have some shits and giggles. 

Why do I work best with this nonsense? Must be a desire for chatter in 
the office. Yet, when I am in the office I get less done. Perhaps it 
is the madness? I have worked to radio programmes and they tend to not 
work as well. A single voice seems to distract compared to the array 
of voices. Sigh. Best keep an eye out for more trashy nonsense to keep 
the work flowing!
