# Hub refurbishment ### 08NOV2022. First musings. On a bit of a whim I bought a 1954 Sturmey Archer AW3 internal hub gearbox from kijiji (the Canadian gumtree equivalent). It only cost me $20, and I have serviced one of it's younger kin before so I'm pretty confident I can get it working over the northern winter of 2022/2023. After that, I don't really know what I'll do with it. I have my opafiets, with its AT3 hub. I'm tempted to build a wheel (and then a whole bike?) around the new hub. I guess it depends on what comes along. I'm trying my best to supress my normal "make everything yourself from scratch" urges. No, I will not buy a welder and build a custom frame from tube steel... No matter how much I might think I can do it. I haven't welded since high school anyway 😅 So far I haven't done anything to it, other than look at it and plan. I've done some research, mostly using Saint Sheldon Brown's website, just as I did for the AT3. Gotta finish a couple of other projects before I start this one... ---------- => projects.gmi [BACK]
