2020-07-03 ------------------------------------------------------------------ I am wondering about the connection between the way people use their senses and the way they think. It seems likely to me that a person who uses their vision with more focused attention would be a person who will likely have less nuanced or open minded approach to their thoughts as well. Or, in positive terms, they would be more goal oriented. They see something, they go for it. You could also say this is a linear way of perceiving. The more nuanced thinking would be like using the other senses. These are senses of immersion. You are actually in the middle of sounds when you are listening. The sounds can arrive anywhere and you have no way of censoring them. Or in the case of vision, the way of nuance would be like using the more wide area of visual field that is not capable of focus but is very good at spotting movement and better in night vision than the focused spot in the center of the field. The person of nuance is not chasing anything when they observe. The person of focus is not looking for an alternative prey when they hunt. These seem very different ways of being to me. You could image this pair being very effective in tracking down an animal and chasing it. But of course, you don't need equal number of them in your tribe. There is not that much advantage having several trackers but there is advantage in having several runners. What a difference it makes in modernity, though! I suppose it is more painful being a person of immersion, since there is too much to perceive. But a person of focus is almost guaranteed to go astray with anything they chase as the prey is hardly ever what it seems to be, and most often there is an invisible predator hovering over the hunter. ------------------------------------------------------------------
