Even after disconnecting from almost all digital gossip, and quite
happily so, I still have a great lump of FOMO left. It's sort of
an existential version of it.

I have pidgeonholed myself in a way that keeps me from developing
an online history of myself that is visible to the outside world.
I don't know if, for example, I will be able to get a job in the
future if I tell them I do not use social media. My line of work
is pretty close to marketing, and the managers in that space are
definitely too online. I could easily imagine them viewing an
applicant suspiciously if the applicant is "naive" about the
"current trends". There would be no talking back to this claim.
I basically cannot make a case that would be heard by the too
online. They think their doomscrolling is research.
