Monday, April 22th, 2024 i spent most of saturday in my room not doing too much of anything. i appreciated the break but felt a bit gross throughout it. i think i did something in the morning - oh that's right, ana had spent the night leading into the day and we slept in and got bagels and stuff. but yeah beyond that i didn't really do much. i believe i ordered pizza mid-day and then made myself sick by not drinking water. then i was listening to church music late into the night after i accidentally fell asleep from about 10pm to midnight. i intended to stay sleeping after i woke up again but my online music friends wanted to put together a cover of 'our house' by CSNY, which was one of my middle/high school favorite songs, so i shot up to listen to that and try to record something. it didn't go great and i ended up listening to a bunch of music until i fell asleep with my headphones on and i think that's why i've got an earache today. i woke up today and showered and came to campus with ana where i pretty much worked all day on making sense of this enzyme activity data. we took a break to go eat potato leek soup at their mom's house and for me to throw some laundry in. i love the day after i've done a bunch of laundry, so i'm looking forward to tomorrow, even though i have to wake up early i think. i mostly plan on doing a bunch more work. i also need to figure out some stuff to order online so i can have proof of residence. i've been meaning to change my residence for a long long time now. mostly so i can get a permit for pittsburgh instead of having to worry about getting everything back home. i hope i can save up for a car reasonably over the next few years. i think it's pretty stupid i never worried about learning to drive or getting a car, but that's the way it went. any more time is even more stupid so i ought to just get it out of the way as soon as i can. anyway, the ideas for things to order online (since i don't often shop for stuff) include some new shoes since most of mine are falling apart (i've only got two pairs of boots without holes in them and one of those just got a hole in the heel), or, well, i don't remember. something for the future apartment i think, probably kitchen related. i also remember i got new guitar strings yesterday and restrung my guitar that i'd let go with a broken string for far too long. Saturday, April 20th, 2024 i made a lot of progress on work stuff in the past couple days. i don't remember how much i described of this before, so forgive me for any redundancy. we have a bunch of expression data for a mixture of molecules and enzymes (an insane amount of molecules) and i'm supposed to make a method that predicts whether a given molecule (not from the data) will interact with a given enzyme (from the data). my main problem so far was how the heck to make sense of the data i was given. but i figured it out today and the numbers are actually making sense, which i'm happy about. now it's a matter of extracting the right substructure information from the molecules to have some meaningful features. Thursday, April 18th, 2024 first of all, i've realized the reason my text width seems wrong is because it is. here i was assuming 80 was generous. i believe i read 67 is safe so that's what i just set it to. Monday, April 15th, 2024 my partner found a chord organ at goodwill today for 14 dollars. there wasn' plug nearby to test it so it was a bit of a gamble, but it ended up working perfectly. i was a bit nervous at how loud it was (coupled with the fact tha there's no volume control), but i figured out some nice ways to have more vo control. the first is to loosen the air intake/exhaust enclosure so that a b of air could escape from the sides. the second is to cover the hole with my or hand. i'm learning how to control it as i play with my knee to get some f in and out and some tremolo. recording it's going to be a separate issue, bu luckily the motor isn't super loud. i haven't checked to see how well-tuned is. hopefully it's fine because it seems the only way to fix that would be t take a knife to the plastic pipes inside it. Saturday, April 13th, 2024 i'm new to participating in the gopher ecosystem, but i've been reading othe phlogs for a few months now. i only committed to digging my own gopher hole night after listening to aNONradio and getting mad that no one was talking i the IRC chat, even though i'm still not super comfortable with IRC. i tried using COM but needed to validate my account and at that point, i was about 2 commands away from my own site. now it's just a matter of actually using it. i've made a variety of WWW websites over the years and always hated updating them. any time i needed to make changes, i ended up just rewriting the whole site from scratch. at least the process of this feels different enough that might not fall into despair at the idea of adding/removing things from here. i've also not been great at journaling lately. there were 2 years where i di pretty regularly, but not so much any more. i think this will be a cool way re-enter that.
