Yesterday, I got a digital camera for the project. This is actually the mai
project - to get my own photos from space (well, 35km is not space yet - The
altitude of 100km is generally used to define the boundary of Earth's atmosp
so its only a third of the distance - still 3x higher than from a commercial
camera should one get that can withstand the harsh conditions of temperature
Celsius and an unknown amount of shock, and maybe crash landing back to eart
the least expensive one - and preferably secondhand, at least for your first
guarantee that you are going to get it back, and if so, in a working state a

Doing HAB means that you have to get a few electronic components - that is i
electronics shop. So here is list of things I got until now:
       1. GSM and GPS module + antennas (first thing I bought - to play with the AT
       2. Radiometrix UHF radio transmitter
       3. Wide band radio receiver

I'm starting a new personal project in High Altitute Ballooning and would li
case anyone has some experience/interest to share in this fasinating hobby.
small helium-filled weather balloon carrying a small payload of a few instru
of a camera, a few sensors and tracking electronics to successfully retreive
balloon will ascent at a rate of 3-5 m/s untill it reaches its bursting poin
29-34 km, when the payload will fall back to earth. A parachute is attached
to provide a fairly save descent rate of 5-8 m/s for the payload. The payloa
kilometers away from the launch point (depending on the wind at various leve
it, hopefully contains some interesting data and video/photos from the earth
       the distance to space.

Today I tried out the gopherspace on SDF. It works a lot like ftp sharing,
can use this space to keep a blog (called a phlog or glog) or just share doc
information you want. Well, I'm trying this glog out right now by submittin
create a normal textfile and name it whatever you want. Then you just have
in your gopher directory and update another file, called gophermap. This fi
configuration/layout on how your gopher page will look. You can read all ab
file in the tutorials section on the sdf.org website.
