-------------------------------------------- SDF 2017.12.11 -------------------------------------------- Well, that didn't take long. In the beginning of December I decided to resuscitate my colo'd server and spin up some VMs to host my content (http, gopherhole, cloud storage). It only took a few weeks to remember why I got out of the business of running my own servers and am gladly paying others to maintain those for me. It's not that I don't have enough knowledge or interest, but I get bored very quickly and can't help wonder if I couldn't be spending my time better doing something else. So I decided to become a MetaARPA user at SDF and host my gopherhole there. I could also use SDF to host my http content, but I'm still not familiar enough with their virtual hosting setup. I'm giving Neocities a try (also as a paying supporter) for the moment, they do everything I need (static content hosting, IPv6 support, custom domains, letsencrypt certs) - the only downside to using Neocities is having to use Webdav to upload content, I'd rather use SFTP or SCP to simplify the rollout configs on my end. While moving across http hosting services around and keeping the same custom domain is pretty easy, moving gopherholes is not so. I can't keep my old hostname at the moment, I wish this was possible.
