-------------------------------------------- It's been a sad day. Since forever. 2018.05.03 22:16:51 CEST -------------------------------------------- I've been amazed at some of the reactions after one of the LLVM developers quit the project due to disagreements with recent non-technical decisions. I've seen people praise his decision, as an example of how to stand for your beliefs in face of what he perceives to be something incorrect. I've also seen people blame him as a privileged white man who is now getting a taste of the pain others feel and how his white male tears are tasty. Perhaps I didn't look deep enough (and I admit I don't have the energy these days to spend on toxic online discussions), but I did not see empathy on either side of the argument. Here is a person who is passionate about what he does and has to adapt and give part of his work up due to changes out of his control. Maybe politicizing it isn't the best idea. Change is inevitable. A lot of work is necessary to learn how to manage the pain and chaos caused by change - most people aren't prepared. I don't how this particular individual feels, but the situation could feel very chaotic and overwhelming (specially with all the attention it's getting). I feel for him. I hope he is able to find peace, another project in which to invest his time and continue to produce open source software. I'm thankful for all the energy he has dedicated to all.
