        One step at a time

I apologize in advance if I start posting too much about my
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experiences and end up boring you.

The journey just started and I prepared myself mentally as best as
I could. I wish I could be prepared physically just as much. I read
about other's experiences and their recommendations. The one thing I
avoided was studying about BJJ itself (drills, moves etc.), my goal
was to learn about other's experiences and what I could do to
improve mine. The martial art itself I can take my time to learn. I
guess this comes from my experience studying tech - learning one
particular piece of technology is not as valuable as learning how to
        learn in the first place.

I'm practicing only with other white belts and I can see how
competitive most are, they want to win always. I know you want to
submit your opponent, but what's the benefit of doing so at the cost
of learning new skills? I don't see it. I'm taking it very slowly,
one step at a time. Have others submitted me? Constantly. I feel no
shame. I'm learning more about them, their moves and the martial
        art.

        One step at a time.

My first steps are focused on developing awareness about what is
going on (what is my opponent doing? how am I reacting to their
moves? where is my body in all of this?), call it mental
conditioning. Physical conditioning will come with time.
