        Real vacations

Last week my family and I had vacations in Lisbon, Portugal. It was
our first time in Portugal and we had a great time. In retrospect, I
think this was my first "real" vacations in some time.

In my mind, when one becomes a parent and wishes to be a good parent
then the children become the focus of attention. During our previous
vacations, I was concentrated so much on them and trying to adjust
our routine during the vacation to match our routine at home - to
minimize their adjustment and hopefully the side-effects of changing
        young children's routines.

This time, however, both boys are getting old enough so we don't
have to change much. We also learned how to plan our daily vacation
schedule better - actually we did a great job planning our whole
vacation, using Airbnb instead of hotels (which allows for a more
"family" feel), using public transport and Uber instead of renting
a car and doing research about activities and restaurants. Instead
of focusing so much on these things I actually got to enjoy our time
        with the family.

I come back to work this week and I'm feeling refreshed. We did a
lot last week, visited museums, zoo, parks, walked and explored
around, but I'm not tired at all. Actually, now I'm looking forward
to our next trip in two weeks.
