Autoupdate Autoupdate is a malicious [1]software [2]feature that frequently remotely modifies software on the user's device without asking, sometimes silently and many times in a forced manner without the possibility to refuse this modification (typically in [3]proprietary software). This is a manifestation of [4]update culture. These remote software modifications are called "updates" to make the user think they are a good thing, but in fact they usually introduce more [5]bugs, [6]bloat, security vulnerabilities, annoyance (forced reboots etc.) and [7]malware (even in "[8]open source", see e.g. the many projects on [9]GitHub that introduced intentional malware targeted at Russian users during the Russia-Ukraine war).
