I double hecked it, repacked it and uploaded it to the "other programs" section. In fact, the claim that only 7zip 9.04 works well in Windows 98 among the newer archivers is a big misconception. Added: - Pear zip portable 5.5.1; - Arj 3.20 console version; - Freebyte Zip 2.3.1 --- 14 april 2024 The links section has been updated - "First Page of the Internet", links to guest books and some Gopher catalogs have been added. I spent a lot of time finding programs for Windows 98 that fully work with DocX files. Unfortunately, I can't find anything on the modern Internet, so I had to test a couple of dozen utilities until I found something that really worked. Thus, I added to the office utilities section: 1) DocX2Rtf converter for Windows 98 2) Abdio Word DocX reader for Windows 98 I also added the following necessary office programs that you cannot live without: 1) SoftMaker Office 2010 portable for Windows XP Just amazing office suite, better than M$ Office 2007 2) Angel writer for Win32, little RTF editor 3) Atlantis Nova 1.0 tiny RTF word processor 4) Lview Pro 2006 for Win32. It seems that there is a solution, but it always has its own peculiarities. There will be details in a while. I'm on the way to give you soon a third solution that allows you to work with DocX files in Windows 98. Stay tuned! --- 30 march 2024 Wi-Fi for Windows 98/2000 update. I continue to sort through old notes and archives in search of things worthy of being placed in eternal storage in GopherSpace. For some reason unknown to me, pages with information about Wi-Fi support for Windows 98/2000 were blocked. I had to spend some time searching for these lost utilities. Thus, I present to your attention an update to the "Networks" section with Wi-Fi clients for Windows98/2000. Now you can download six different Wi-Fi network clients in one place. Three clients for Windows 98 and three clients for Windows 2000. Another couple of years and there won't be anything useful left in HTTPs... Move to Gopher before it's too late... --- 29 march 2024 Remembering of the fun old days of the late 90's and early 2000's, I've added some fun pages of my own to the links section. 1) Last page of Internet 2) Spray against idiotic questions 3) Vaccine against stupidity 4) Internet off switch 5) Official Micro$oft Notepad Gopher 6) Page for real man 7) Useless link page 8) Erotic page for Dial Up --- 28 march 2024 I turned the links section into the first page of the Internet and called this place Gophoogle. I know a lot of people complain that they can't figure out Gopher logic. This place was created specifically as an entry point for all wanderers who were accidentally brought here. I replaced the buggy Foxit PDF DocX Viewer with my portable version of TexMaker Viewer 2009 for Windows XP. It has been replaced by my portable versions of AbiWord for Windows 98 and Windows Xp. The portable version for Windows XP perfectly opens DocX files without additional system update packages. --- 18 march 2024 I continue upload to our Gopher my portable rebuilds and repacks. All programs work equally well in Windows 98 and Windows XP. Here's what I added: 1) Nokia monitor test - portable version 2) Active undelete - portable version 3) Norton Ghost 8.2 - portable version 4) Password Renew tool - portable version 5) Process Explorer XP - portable version 6) Uninstall tool - portable version 7) Restorator - Dll editor - Full version 8) Folder Guard - Full version 9) Blue tooth utilites - Full version 10) Network stress test - portable version 11) Captain Nemo Multiplatform file manager - portable version 12) "Little office" for Windows 98 by Roman - portable version 13) Small CD writer - portable version 14) Archive Password Recovery tool - Full version 15) Office Password Recovery tool - Full version --- 17 march 2024 I have uploaded my new special portable version of the my "Little office suite" for Windows 98. A Shell32 update patch for Windows 95 has been added to the patches and utilities section for connecting network printers and drives. --- 8 feb 2024 I was added instructions for working with Gopher for beginners. An image viewer for Win32 Infan View 3.85 has been added to the office utilities section along with additional plugins. Exchanging links is now easy! Fixed some inaccuracies in my descriptions. --- 18 jan 2024 Sorry about my omission, I forgot an important thing again. WinSCP Portable is a free SFTP (OpenSSL), FTP and SCP client for Windows XP+ with SSH1, SSH2 has been added to the "Servers and Networks" section -> FTP subsection. --- 17 jan 2024 I made a full-fledged HTML download page for my Gopher browser build for modern versions of Windows. Now there is more important and detailed information about the Gopher:// protocol --- 14 jan 2024 I made a build based on a modern browser released in 2024 to work using the Gopher:// protocol for all modern versions of Windows: http://shibboleths.org/roman/ Although testing is still ongoing. In principle, we can say that the browser is working. This is a full-fledged portable browser for Gopher:// and modern versions of Windows. --- 13 jan 2024 The section with hints on how Gopher browsers work had to be corrected. It turns out that native Gopher clients, unlike browsers, do not see backpaths to files. --- 12 jan 2024 Very, very small updates continue. An IRC client for DOS has been added to the "Servers and Networks" section, as well as an mTCP package for working with networks for DOS and IBM PC with 8088 CPU! --- 11 jan 2024 I was forced to add instructions about accessing modern browsers to Gopher:// network on the main page. It turns out that the globalists have removed clear instructions from their sites, and the plugins may not work due to limitations in BigTech company browsers. Other useful programs section has been updated with Lynx's console browsers for Win32 and DOS, allowing you to visit Gopher! --- 10 jan 2024 I created another section with Windows 9x desktop themes and original wallpapers of those times. To this, in principle, I can say that work on my Gopher:// is completed and the project has acquired the form that I planned. I also added a program for detecting the sound card configuration for DOS to the drivers section. Now I can say that this Gopher is a complete tool for working with Legacy systems, allowing you to get the necessary basic programs and updates for your Legacy systems. Just come, download everything you need and work without problems and troubles! --- 9 jan 2024 I uploaded 13 fully Internet Explorer compatible games to test how JS works in Gopher. I also posted a separate archive with all these games in the same section. The experiment confirmed that JS works fine even if you use a Gopher:// server as the host. I'll be working on desktop themes for Windows 9x soon. As it turns out, there are about 50 +/- of these themes in my archives. I need to systematize all this and place it here as well. I haven't found anything else worthy of your and my attention on my old discs. --- Off topic. Experiments... Experiments continue. I made a small section with JS online games for the browser. This is proof that there is no difference between http:// and gopher:// if the browser supports JS. So you can play these Gopher games through Internet Explorer or any other browser. My theory that .htaccess is originally a copy of gophermap is confirmed. The first WWW sites actually used .htaccess as a navigation tool, similar to gophermap. This way, anyone can use JS scripts inside HTML in the Gopher:// protocol as well as in HTTP:// if the browser supports it. You can see the screenshot in the section for yourself. --- 8 jan 2024 You will laugh, but I again forgot about important things dedicated to Legacy systems and working with them. In the patches and utilities section, I uploaded updates for Windows 98/2000 that allow you to run applications from Windows XP/7 with my detailed instructions for installing and updating these systems. --- 7 jan 2024 I had to create a small additional section with scripts for the IRC client MIRC 6x. Only scripts that have been tested over the time have been added there. --- 6 jan 2024 I'm almost finished sorting through my archives. I probably won't make such big updates anymore. In the File Managers section I added 13 programs for the DOS console and for Win32s. I am absolutely convinced that you have never even heard of some of the file managers presented here. However, each such program has important distinctive features that help in your work. In the drivers section, I uploaded the three most important patches for Windows 98. They support for RAM more than 512 mb, support for hard drives more than 137 gigabytes, as well as support for UDF DVD. In fact, I can say that the bulk of my work regarding file archives is finished. And I have already placed all the most important files here. Thanks for using Gopher! --- 5 jan 2024 My update rule is to offer you only those solutions that I have used myself for many years. This time I used old CDs that I recorded in the early 2000s, for my works. In the Servers and Networks section I added MS Lan Manager 2 with support for Novell networks and the remote administration utility for Windows 9x Remote Admin. I have added system tweakers for Windows 9x - XP to the utilities section. In the near future I will go through all the disks and plan to upload the remaining file managers. I also added some descriptions on working with Gopher:// Our Gopher:// was accepted for indexing by the Veronica search engine today. I also conducted experiments on working with my Gopher using Internet Explorer 6.0. And I found these actions quite impressive. Unlike HTTP, in Gopher doesn't have to worry about being unable to access updates and archives from the Internet. I just went in and downloaded everything I needed for Windows 98. It's really great! --- 4 jan 2024 I continue to upload some programs that I undeservedly missed. I had to tinker a lot to find them. So, I uploated three servers of protocols FSP/HTTP for Win32, as well as one FSP client. Moreover, they all have a GUI. The FreeFSP client and OminFSPd server will only take up a couple of hundred kilobytes of your server. A simple IRC server for Win32 with a GUI of 373 kb in size has also been added to the servers and networks section! Thus, any computer from a trash can can turn into a powerful communication hub! --- 3 jan 2024 I'm almost done organizing all my technical experience over these decades. This is the latest massive update with many useful programs and archives to keep your Windows 9x/NT/ XP/DOS systems up to date. Now I'm moving on to more rare updates, since the bulk of the archives have already been selected and uploaded to the server. A file manager section has been added, drivers, utilities, and office sections have been updated. --- 2 jan 2024 The analysis of old archives on old hard drives has been completed. All current programs for Windows 3.x - Windows XP are collected and systematized. Sections of patches, drv, networks, and other programs have been updated. New sections of office programs and useful programs have been created. I continue to systematize my experience, making it accessible to everyone. --- 1 jan 2024 I was find my old hard drives. I began work on copying and systematizing the technical experience I had accumulated on these storage media in the form of program archives. Lots of very useful things. Stay tuned! --- 31 dec 2023 Finally, I finished revising and systematizing all my experience working with industrial networks and legacy industrial engineering equipment. A new section has been created with archives of network and server software with a list of all the protocols that I have used over decades of my working life. Added 32 new unique archives! --- 30 dec 2023 Several new links have been added, and a CPU heating reduction utility for Windows 98 has been added to the patches and utilities section. I started sorting through my very old archives of files. In the near future I will begin to publish programs that I used in the operation of industrial networks based on legacy systems. Lots of unique things. Stay tuned. --- 29 dec 2023 New Year's surprise. I have repack the WinRampage rebuild in such a way that now you can play three parts of the cult game Redneck Rampage in Windows XP. All bugs and version conflicts of executable files, grp file and con files have been fixed. Enjoy your favorite series of games in Open GL on any office computer! --- 28 dec 2023 On the flash drive I found the history of changes in the Local Industrial Portal script. I published it in the same place as the script itself. Added link to Gopher The Undergoround USA. --- 27 dec 2023 I pulled out another old development of mine from the flash drive, created during the works of this development. This thing was created a long time ago. I cleaned it up and reworked it and decided to publish it here. You can download it in the php scripts section called Local industrial portal. p.s. This is one of my first redevelopments, so it is better not to change its source code! --- 26 dec 2023 I continue to publish things based on my experience in operating old industrial systems and equipment. This time I have collected all the drivers and all the patches that allow you to update old systems FAT32/NTFS drivers for Dos and Windows 98-NT. Various kinds of system utilities to make life easier and so on. This is all part of my work to organize my experience in one place. Expect more updates soon. This time I added 13 new archives and created a new section with patches and system utilities. Everything I offer you has been tested with daily use. --- 25 dec 2023 I started testing two new Redneck rampage repacks based on a modern engine. When I finally test everything, I’ll upload it here. These are two additional official addons that many have not heard of. Unfortunately, during testing, problems arose in the game itself while playing on Windows. --- 22 dec 2023 I continue to post things that I use every day along with tips on how to use them. This time I uploaded a very useful utility for Windows XP to the driver section. USB drives formatting utility for Windows XP. Allows you to format large flash cards (over 64 GB) in FAT32. Useful for owners of old household TV or DVD players with USB output. Since it allows you to copy a larger volume of movies by formatting large drives larger than 64 GB in FAT32. Since these devices only support FAT32. And as you know, using standard Windows XP tools it is not possible to format a flash drive larger than 64 GB in FAT32. --- 21 dec 2023 I continue to publish my crafts. This time, in the php scripts section, a deeply revised tree forum script has been published on files adapted for modern browsers. All my php scripts work perfectly on simple industrial single board computers and do not require SQL. Added link to Central Ontario Remote - Gopher & BBS project. --- 20 dec 2023 I continue to add programs that I use every day. This time we have added a very simple and fast IRC client for older Android phones. Minimalistic IRC client for mobile phones based on old Android. Nothing extra, just text. Tested in daily use. You can download it in the section of programs for push-button phones. --- 19 dec 2023 I added another project of mine to the php scripts section, a file-based local echo mail system. I continue to clear away my rubble and look for my old developments to publish. Added link to Ben Collver gopher. If you want to exchange links, then write in the guest book. --- 18 dec 2023 Files upload is complete. Gopher is ready to works. I continue to audit of my archives in search of other rebuilds/repacks that I have done before. --- 17 dec 2023 Started uploading project to the server! --- 12 dec 2023 Finally, I collected all my crafts in one place. Well, or almost. It's look like, i'll add something else when I have time. All that remains is to get the ftp passwords... --- 09 dec 2023 Here will be news...
