how to install AmigaUNIX with a GVP-hostadapter ================================================ 1) guzip the "inst.gvp.dd.gz" and "boot.gvp.dd.gz" files and write the uncompressed files to 880KB floppy disks in a raw format using flat-handler or similar (from aminet) or under any UNIX with the "dd" command. Label them as "Install Disk 1, GVP-AMIX" and "Boot-Disk GVP-AMIX" 2) boot with the "Install Disk 1, GVP-AMIX" floppy inserted 3) proceed with the "Root" floppy as stated in the Amix manual 4) when the system ask you on which SCSI-ID you want to install you MUST choose "0". Make sure you have the drive you want UNIX on jumpered to this ID!!! 5) complete the installation until you get the "please reboot..." message 6) boot with the "Boot-Disk GVP-AMIX" floppy inserted 7) apply the patch from AMIX 2.1 to 2.1c patch-disk as per instructions ("sh /dev/dsk/fd0")... 8) shutdown the system 9) Please add the "Dummy-Handler" to the RDB of the harddrive on SCSI-ID 0. Use HDToolBox for this. Do NOT touch this harddrive with the partitioning tools from GVP as they would wipe the UNIX stuff off the drive!!! 10) boot with the "Boot-Disk GVP-AMIX" floppy inserted and log in as "root" 11) apply "sh install.gvp" and follow the instructions The whole thing is a little tricky, but the problem is, that the kernel on the tape has no GVP support and this kernel ist installed per default. The limitation to SCSI-ID 0 is because the installation script patches the SCSI-ID into the original kernel at certain absolute offsets which are different on the GVP kernel. Easing/fixing this would require a completely new tape which would be a lot of work and violation of the C= (and in succession AT&T, Sun, USL, ...) licenses. .
