2024-07-21 - Of One Blood by Pauline Elizabeth Hopkins ====================================================== To use pop culture references, this book reminded me of the Black Panther movie and also of Indiana Jones. I enjoyed the elements of adventure and travel in this story. The protagonist is a white-passing African American man named Reuel, which is Hebrew for Friend Of God. The book brings to mind the Lost World genre, and i read it described as Afrotopian. It was a relatively quick read. From the Wikipedia article about this novel: The novel's title was inspired by Acts 17:26 in the Bible: > Of one blood I made all nations of man to dwell upon the whole face > of the earth (...) No man can draw the dividing line between the > two races, for they are both of one blood! And to quote the novel itself: > Caste prejudice, race pride, boundless wealth, scintillating > intellects refined by all the arts of the intellectual world, are > but puppets in His hand, for His promises stand, and He will prove > His words, "Of one blood have I made all races of men." author: Hopkins, Pauline E.
