* Exported from MasterCook II * Wild Grape Dumplings Recipe By : Melba Duncan, Sister Serving Size : 2 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Dumplings Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 2 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon plus 1/4 cup sugar 1/3 cup butter 3/4 cup milk 4 cups grape juice (from wild grapes if possible) 4 cups wild grapes, (concord will substitute) -- seeded Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. With a pastry blender, work in the butter. Stir in the milk to make a dough. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured board and cut into 2 inch squares. Heat the grape juice, grapes and remaining sugar in a heavy kettle until boiling. Drop in the dumplings. Cover closely and steam 15 to 20 minutes or until tender. Serve hot. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOTES : My sister, Melba, lives along a creek in Oklahoma and has wild grapes. We use to go over and pick them and can or freeze the juice, so on. But....I have gotten lazy and haven't done that in 3 or so years. So I make this with concord, not the same flavor but still very tasty.
