MMMMM-----Meal-Master - formatted by MMCONV 2.10 Title: Apple Pandowdy With Brown Sugar Sauce Categories: Pies, Desserts, Fruit Servings: 6 SAUCE: 1 c Brown sugar 1/4 c Flour 1/4 ts Salt 1 c Water DOUGH: 1 c Flour 1/4 ts Salt 2 ts Baking powder 3 tb Butter 3/4 c Milk FRUIT LAYER: 5 c Apples; sliced, peeled 1/2 ts Cinnamon 1/2 ts Nutmeg 1 ts Vanilla 2 tb Butter TO FINISH: 1/8 ts Cinnamon 1 tb Coarse sugar For the sauce, in a saucepan, combine brown sugar, flour and salt. Add the water and lemon juice. Cook and stir over medium heat until thick. Cover and set aside. For the dough, in a bowl, combine flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in the butter. Add the milk and mix. Set aside. Arrange apples in a baking dish, sprinkle with cinnamon. Add nutmeg, vanilla and butter to the sauce and pour over the apples. Drop dough by spoonfuls over sauce. Combine cinnamon and coarse sugar; sprinkle over dough. Bake at 350 F until top is browned and apples are tender, about 55 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
