2020-02-29 - Reducing digital accounts ------------------------------------------------------------------- One goal for this year, is to reduce the number of digital accounts i have to an absolute minimum. My ultimate goal is to have a maximum of 10 accounts, including accounts for email, bank, utilities and insurance. And while this goal is very challenging, for me it is good practice in order to realize how many accounts i've build up over the years. A couple of months ago i've started purging some accounts. So now i have around 18 accounts left. And i have another four i will be purging soon hopefully. The reason for purging accounts, is to reduce digital footprint, i.e. minimize my digital presence. To become less vulnerable to hacks, and to simplify administration. Unfortunately it is still difficult to completely purge accounts in an easy way at many websites. So more than occasionally you end up deleting personal info from accounts in order to anonymize them. Which is less than ideal of course. It would be cool if (instead of all those useless "click to accept" cookie regulations) websites were obligated to have a "Delete my account and all my data" button available. In addition to deleting accounts, the challenge is also not to make any new accounts. This becomes much easier as i'm trying to ditch regular www browsing in favour of text mode browsing. But still, let's see how this goes for this year.
