2019-08-08 - Hot

Ugh, it's again ridiculously hot, and it will remain to be hot here 
for some more days to come. An while summer does come with warm 
weather on this hemisphere, it is being unreasonably hot and dry.

And still the country seems to be all giddy for these unreasonably 
high temperatures. "Oh hey, it has never been this hot? Well, no 
worries. Let's fire up the barbeque and play summery music. And 
when we go inside we'll just crank up the airco a bit higher, and 
everything will be fine." Just keep doing what you're doing, and 
don't change a thing.

Somehow i still hope for an attitude change at some point, where 
people will realize that these long periods of elevated 
temperatures and the resulting droughts are in actuality a real and 
very scary problem. Furthermore, it is a problem that will not go 
away, and will not become any smaller. It is also not a problem 
that warrants the cheerful attitude it continues to be welcomed 
with... "Oh hey, just put the airco a bit higher and have a beer".

It's as if you're having a party in a house and somebody lit some 
candles, because everybody loves some cosy candlelight in the dark 
evening. But in the meantime the candles have set fire to the 
curtains and parts of the carpet... And instead of panicking and 
trying to extinguishing the fire which is staring to blaze around 
the house, all that happens is that the party-goers are admiring 
this "enhanced" candlelight, and having a celebratory beer to enjoy 
it.

The Swedish girl was right. Our house is on fire and we should 
panic.
