2022-07-15 - Running ------------------------------------------------------------------- Some years ago i took up running/jogging. The main reason for me to start running was for the mental benefits. I had read it was good for the head. And indeed, it also felt good for my head... Ok, not at first... But once i was able to run a couple of kilometers in one go, i started to feel the benefits. While the running itself has slowly grown for me to become quite a pleasant activity, the feeling after a good run is the most rewarding; After having done a run in the morning, having a quick shower and then having a bowl of oatmeal with banana - It's really quite one of best feelings in the world. And i notice this alters my mood quite a bit. The past couple of weeks i've been increasing the amount of runs i make. Instead of my normal 'two times a week', i now would like to run four times a week. However, being overly enthousiastic i've overdone the running a bit and now i'm starting to have slightly sore knees... The good thing is, the sore knees are hardly painful at the moment, and are only a minor nuisance. But it's a good wakeup call to remain careful and not get overboard with the running. To help with this there are some things that i'm planning to do different; - Adhere to the magic 10% rule; Don't increase the distance ran by more than 10% a week. - Do a proper 10 minute warm up before starting to run, and don't just start running after jumping out of the bed in the morning. - Get sufficient rest in between runs. - Don't try to run fast all the time. Also do slow relaxed jogs. Hopefully this should help prevent any sore bodyparts in the future, and enable me to keep enjoying the mental benefits of running without any injuries. ==__ ('') .- - o /| / \/ <+o | [__]. /\ / \ \/ ./ _____________________\__________________________________
